Regular light to moderate exercise for 20-30 minutes, 3 times a week is recommended. Swimming or brisk walking is ideal.

Exercise in pregnancy

Mild to moderate exercise in pregnancy is generally recommended by obstetricians. This is especially so if you exercised regularly before pregnancy. Avoid high impact activities as the joints and back are softer in pregnancy due to hormones. You should avoid exercise that is exhausting. Swimming and brisk walks are ideal. Yoga with an experienced pregnancy teacher is fine. A mild sensation of shortness of breath with exertion is usual in pregnancy, so be ready if this occurs.
